I like nr. 3 with the blue as the main color but then you need to use only the reds, pinks and very darks as the corners in the 9 patches.

(You have a mistake on the right 9 patch where you used the blue in the corners and the darker colors in the 4 squares.)

IOW, if you use the blue as background, don't use blue or a close color as the corners in the 9 patches. Make sure the contrast is great. The blue one would end up looking like a jewel tones quilt and would be gorgeous.

But maybe they would prefer the black/grey. It is nice and bold and would probably look great.

I like #1, but lose the 9-patch on the right. The colors need to be in the corners like the other blocks.

The first one would be my choice. Not sure about the placement of the dark squares in the 9 patches but do know it must be consistent.
Really like the color choices with the dark background.

I agree that it is really not an Irish chain....however the colors in the first are bright and fun....it would be a good idea to run choices by your future DIL ...after 35 years I have found that works the best!

I like the contrast in the first one. The black really makes the colors pop.
