I want to make my 6 month old grandson a pirate boat softie. Nothing fancy, I thought of making a shape like a watermelon slice then adding a fat triangular sail. Maybe put a satin flag on top.

Stuff it with crinkle paper/plastic and a bell or rattle.

Ideas? resources? Even a picture would help!

This is cute, but might be too big for what you want.

Ok more help needed. Is felt ok for softies that will be chewed on? Will the color bleed and if it isn't felted wool, might it come apart? What other fabric types would you use instead?

Cool. I definately wouldn't use felt. Maybe cottons, chennile, fleece, flannel, jersey....just my thoughts I have no real practice...just thinking about what I put in baby quilts.

I like the idea of jersey or flannel, they would stretch more for shaping. Thanks!

Do any of you know what the trick it to stuffing a softie so that it crinkles? If I line it with batting the crinkle is too quiet. If I don't line it with batting the plastic feels hard and bumpy.

    Any ideas? thanks! :?:
