Need a recommendation

Not knowing the condition, can it just be recovered like a pillowcase over the worn out pad. I have an old June Taylor pressing mat and I just keep making new covers for it as they wear out. I also do this for those foldable pressing mats that people take to classes.

I made my own, it was originally made to cover a wooden TV table, but it never made it to that point. I cut a piece of all cotton batting to fit the TV table + 3 inches for wrapping over the edge; then I cut two pieces of heavyweight unbleached muslin the same size and a made a sandwich, zigzagged the edges and stopped at that point. It was ready to use. I fold it in half and it is ready to use by my machine (sometimes I fold it in quarters, if space requires it). It works great and I don't have to transport a TV table.
