    a fairly wide blanket stitch- with the needle right next to the shape- would help with your edges- then you could just quilt inside each shape-- echo quilting would be cute- it is so cute- don't give up.

    it"s an adorable quilt. stitch around each shape as others have suggested, then step back for a while, breathe, and you will see it anew. It is so darling. the recipient will be happy.

    Thanks to all of you for your encouragement--I will get back to it, based on your advice, and see what I can do. Will post it when it's done.

    Thanks for your encouragement. I finished it by decorative stitching of little hearts around each of the shapes, and I used scraps for the binding. I actually really like it now. I don't know what I would have done with it without your suggestions.
    This list is so good!
    I plan to put the baby's name on one of the yellow shapes, and maybe the grandparents' names on one of the others (it's for the the grandparents).
