When printing out your pattern are you supposed to reverse it?

I am making a wall hanging with the word NOEL - When I do the piecing it looks like it is going to be backwards - does this make sense to you?

If the paper pattern is reversed you're on the right track. That way your letters will be the correct way round once you've pieced it.

Edited to make myself more clear: The pattern you use should be a mirror image of what you want to end up with.

You should be sewing on the foundation which would be face up to you and the letters would be backwards.

When looking at the fabric side, it should be correctly orientated.

I think you're supposed to sew the fabric to the back of the disign.

work with the fabric upside down the lines and numbers facing you. the fabrics backside and underside of the paper are facing making sense? I did a name with carol doaks letters and had issues with the b and N were backwards when I made them and reversed those letters

You should have the fabrics on the side of the foundation that has the printed lines for the letters to come out right.

    LOL!
I just reread the whole thread.
No one, including me, directly answered this question.

    No, you don't have to.
But you would be placing the fabric on different sides depending on how it was printed.

So if you print it out so you can read the letter normally, then you would place your fabric on that side (w/ printing)and sew from the back side (no printing).

If you reversed the print so the B was backwards, then you would place the fabric on the opposite side (no printing), and sew on the side with the printing (w/ printing).

Some software allows you to reverse the printing easily.
I would just suggest that you be consistent so you don't drive yourself crazy.

Although a friend did a quilt for a 3-year old, and did reverse some of the letters - just like the kid did. It was adorable. My friend said she did it intentionally......or maybe it was a clever fix to not have to re-do the letter.
