Default Need Suggestions for Asian Inspired Quilt Designs and Patterns

I am meeting a friend at the end of Jan. and I want to make her a quilt as a gift. She loves to travel. I've never been to her house, but she tells me that she has Buddhas, candles and other Asian inspired motifs in her home. She's also told me that her favorite colors are pink, purple, blue and green. I'm trying to come up with some design that incorporates all of these elements and I'm not sure which way to go with it. I don't know whether to go loud and vibrant, soft and muted, Japanese Sashiko, Thai inspired, Indonesian Batik, etc. How about some suggestions from all of you? What type of patterns would you suggest? Thanks.
    ~ Cindy

What about either a Bento Box (for a more subtle theme) or something like Japanese Lanterns? The Japanese lanterns could be a blend of colors, not quite scrappy, but almost. Some could be bright and vibrant, and some could be muted.

Shibori Dragon has a lot of beautiful Asian inspired patterns. Maybe you can get a few ideas from their site.

My current intriguing pattern is the Dance of the Dragonflies pattern. I posted my block of it done with both black and cream backgrounds.

Very pretty! How hard is that block to do? I love it. I only have a month to get this project done. Does it go fast?

I made a 12 Moons quilt from this free pattern. http://www.robertkaufman.com/assets/...lveMoonsFP.pdf
it went together really quickly! I substituted the moons in the corners with the fans because I had the fan printed fabric by Michael Miller

I like these ideas...they will go together quickly. I'm thinking the lanterns would be nice.

I've used a book called "Japanese Quilt Blocks to Mix and Match" by Susan Briscoe. Really great quilt blocks, with suggestions for whole quilt designs. Every block is coded for beginner, intermediate, advanced. Hope you come up with an exciting project!

Here's the amazon link to the book: http://www.amazon.com/Japanese-Quilt...anese+quilting
