Default Need thread help from the experts!

I am making a St. Patrick's Day wall hanging, and using rainbow colored ric-rac in long wavy lines. I wanted to use "invisible" thread. No matter what I did, I could not get it to work in my machine. I bought Coats Transparent poly thread. It broke, stretched, and messed up in the bobbin. I eventually just used a neutral thread. For future reference, do I need different thread, or special needles? Looking for advice and ideas. Thanks in advance!!

The "invisible" thread doesn't work well in the bobbin. I use it on the top thread only and use a cotton or cotton/poly thread in the bobbin. Hope that helps.

What Audrey said - don't use it in the bobbin, use it in the top only, and loosen your tension A LOT.

I just used the invisible thread in my bobbin along with a polyester thread on the top and I did not have any trouble at all

I can use invisible thread in both top and bobbin. A few of the things I do: (1) loosen top tension a lot to prevent the thread from stretching, (2) wind bobbin slowly, again to prevent the thread from stretching, (3) wind bobbin only half full so the bobbin doesn't distort from the pressure of the thread. Works for me.

As well as loosening the tension, I also use a smaller needle - an 80/12 at least. Stops it 'waving' about (if that makes sense!).

I had the same problem until I switched to Sulky Invisible. The first invisible thread of those days felt like actual fishing line. As previous posts mention, don't use it in the bobbin too.

I only use it in the top, not bobbin. I use Harriet Hargraves invisible thread. I did not have to change any settings on my machine, needle or anything. I have a Bernina.

Thanks all! I will experiment without putting it in the bobbin. Should have thought of that!! Think I'll try a different brand also. The one I tried is extremely thin...almost invisible!!
