This was my though also. The black reads calming while the blue does create sparkle.

I also would normally choose the black, but in this case the blue is really calling out to me. I feel the black calms down the batiks way too much, and as said often already, the blue just makes the quilt sparkle.

The black sashing would be my choice.

Either would work but I think the black makes the star blocks "pop"; whereas, the blue itself
"pops" and maybe takes away from the pretty star blocks. Whatever appeals to you is what's most important.

I would almost always prefer the black, but in this case, I think the blue softens it. The black looks a little stark to me.
