I make a check list out and follow it every time I start, just like when you drive a car ,now that check list is planted in my mind of what to do before starting..good luck

I start with moving the wheel by hand before I start sewing. This is a habit that I started when I first starting sewing. This is a no fail if you do this each time you start sewing a piece of fabric.

Well don't know about brilliant ideas for you but it does take time to remember to change those needle plates for particular sewing. A checklist sounds like a good idea but unfortunately I've also learned the hard way but it gets easier all the time when needing to change the needle plate. Generally what I do is of course start with the single hole plate for my piecing and also take out my other plate with the pressure foot I am intending on using. It helps a lot but doesn't mean I always remember.

Will be interesting to hear others thoughts on this subject.

I think I'll try a colorful post-it-note over my zigzag buttons.
    Thanks for the tips!

I took some bright red nail polish and put a dot on the straight stitch needle plate. I hope it always reminds me to "Stop" before I break a needle.
