I do a lot of paper piecing and was looking for something transparent so that it was easy to reverse designs. I came across Simple Foundations Translucent Vellum Paper and purchased some, but it was £7.75 for just 30 sheets - although good, really expensive! I felt there had to be something cheaper! I hunted around and, eventually, found packets of Owl Brand A4 Natural Tracing Paper which, unlike some other makes that I tried, goes through my printer like a dream without jamming it up! Unfortunately, I discovered soon afterwards that the makers are discontinuing it so, 3 weeks ago, I went on the internet and tracked down a boxful which works out at £2 per packet of 20 sheets - only snag is ..... a box contains 144 packets!! But at least I shall never run out!! In the US, you seem to have much cheaper alternatives than we do here in the UK.

I purchased mine at Staples. I have gotten it in sheets and in rolls. I think it is the best for Paper Piecing.

I used to buy Neenah paper at Xpedx. They have very good prices.

Staples has 16# Vellum in a pad of 50 sheets for about $8.00

Jacquie, I remember you were looking for it at our retreat in Enid! Still haven't found it? I will look around Tulsa but we have the usual Staples and Office Depot. Have you checked there?

Neehan is a paper manufactuer they carry all type of paper stock. I have worked for a printing company for 30 years and they are a nice quality band of paper. There are wholesale paper houses all over that sell this paper to individual's. Before I paid 40 plus dollars I would check paper houses or your local printer they will know the Neehan brand. Bosworth Paper, Clampitt Papers, XpedX, PaperChase etc. some will not sell to individuals but some will.

Parchment paper is a paper like product that comes on a roll that keeps food, especially baked goods, from sticking to the pan or baking sheet. The brand that I use is Reynolds. It is available in the supermarket where you would find saran wrap and waxed paper. It is opaque so you can see some details through it. It comes in a 24' by 15" roll. You would have to cut each piece or do a marathon cutting of pieces to fit the printer. You should be able to get 33 sheets and the cost is less than $3.00. (I haven't purchased any of it lately). One side of it has a more paper texture and the other has a slicker texture. I print on the side that feels more like paper and let it sit for a minute to be sure it is completely dry before doing any sewing. You might want to try it with some scrap pieces of fabric first and see if the ink would transfer to your fabric or not. Mine does not but I don't know with the different printers and inks if you might have a different result or not. I usually use my little wooden iron to press my seams when I paper piece but also use parchment paper under my fabric when I iron on fusible backing for applique. Once cool the fusible won't stick to it. That is how I learned that it would get kind of brittle when ironed a couple of times. It comes off nicely without the ironing but if you want to really speed up the removal process just fold and iron along the paper piecing sewing lines and it will come off like butter. Ann in TN
