No, original work is copyrighted as soon as it is created. You need do nothing. In order for it to be protected in court, however, it must be registered with the copyright office.

I am visiting my daughter in Ohio right now but will be home this coming week. Then I will have the chance to actually make a block. I'll post a photo as soon as I get one done. I want to time how long it takes too.
I have written up the directions for the quilt for myself and can fairly easily turn them into a pattern, I think. The block is a little complicated so I want to be sure I keep it straight.
I don't know how to figure out the yardage needed since mine is going to be done from scraps. I will do my best to keep track of what I use when making it tho.
