I would call your airline and ask their customer assisstance department on that. I know that they allow larger quantities of liquids, but you may need a note from your doctor on his letter head.

Hmmm....looks like KLM might not like any type of scissors -

    Blunt and edged items....

    Restricted articles
According to European Union rules, the following articles may not be carried in hand baggage in the cabin of a passenger aircraft:

Liquids, unless in small quantities and packed separately according to the official rules
    Products of animal origin
    Firearms
    Blunt and edged items
Explosives, flammable, chemical and toxic substances
Loose lithium batteries, such as rechargeable lithium batteries and AA lithium batteries for laptops and DVD players, may only be carried in hand baggage. Each spare battery must be packed in the original packaging. If you no longer have this packaging, you must cover the battery contact points with tape to insulate them and pack each battery in a separate plastic bag.

products of animal origin? like leather shoes? wool jackets? small pets under your seat (which some airlines now allow)? purses? are they kidding?

I think Israel may be even stricter. So, in some ways I guess we're lucky.

Yes, I think these regulations are silly. But in the long run, if it keeps just one flight from being compromised, then we've all done our part.

they were wishy-washy in their answer. they said i should get a dr's letter, which i did, and the security guys should allow me through. should? like, if they had a good breakfast? i'm just taking it with the letter. if they don't let me on i can leave the water. there must be a dr there who'll get it for me.

My husband and I flew to Las Vegas twice this year. The first time I had a crochet hook and the afghan I was working on, along with some small sticheries and the needle to do them with and a small pair of scissors in my carry on purse. Everything went through fine. The second time, everything but the afghan and it went through fine. I agree with the lady that said "it depends on where you are" and the levels of national security.

Double-check the airline's listing & print it out when you travel. That way if there's any question, you can show it.

I will see if I can find the website & post it (if it hasn't been done already)

Maybe the things being taken depend on the "need" of the day. Each airport is different for some reason. While flying to Houston one time my suitcase was to big. Cost me an extra $28, coming back not a thing was said about the size. Same suitcase too.
