I hope I can make this question make sense. I have done FMQ on my juki for a couple of years but use it table top. I'm completely self taught so probably don't know all the technical terms and fancy stitches. I like to do the meandering and I recently started practicing a free hand design similar to a wave and a heart with swirled vines in between for borders.
This weekend I set up my first frame a Grace Start Right and practiced on a quilt. Lets say I'll need more practice. Didn't realize I had to move the machine so slow. Anyway I wondered if ayone had advice on borders. The area I can quilt at one time without moving the fabric is about 4 inches or so, maybe 5 I haven't measured yet. Was curious if anyone had info on how they do borders. Do I have to unpin and turn quilt or???

When I started, I just treated the borders like the center and did an all over. I didn't start turning the quilt until I had quilted on a frame for about 6 months. For a fun beginner video, try www.pajamaquilter.com She helped me 'turn the corner' with my quilting! And she is alot of fun! Happy quilting!
