I as looking for some freezer paper to use for stabilizing the fabric when making quilt labels. From what I understand you can just peel it off when your done. But now I heard the freezer paper is now backed with plastic. Would it still work for that purpose?

Any other suggestions for writing on fabric would also be welcome.

I am a beginner quilter and so far have made a few mug rugs, 1 finished quilt and 2 quilt tops. I'm already addicted!

The plastic coated works fine. To write on fabric put the fabric on light sandpaper. The fabric will not move or stretch.

Thank you for the sandpaper tip. I really didn't want to but 50 ft of freezer paper just to do some label. It would last beyond my lifespan! lol

You might be surprised at how often you can use freezer paper in quilting. While the roll will last a while, it isn’t expensive or take up much space. Go for the roll! LOL

It's been backed with plastic for as long as I can remember. Lots of people use it for paper piecing.

Another great use - sub for clothing tissue paper patterns. About 10 years ago, I bought a blouse off the clearance rack, it fit me beautifully but I didn't care for the print/color of the fabric. I ripped all the seams out, laid each piece on freezer paper, traced around them, made my own pattern pieces. Then I ironed the freezer pattern pieces directly to my chosen fabric and cut. No pins needed. I've made probably 12-14 different blouses from this one pattern. I change small things such as the collar, the sleeves, etc.

I use newspaper to stabilize when satin stitch appliqueing.

I have some of the wax coated butcher paper.. it's thicker and will last much longer to reuse for crafts/sewing. The freezer paper now is thinner and doesn't last as long to reuse but does the job.
