You really don't need a book if you have access to the internet, as evidenced above.

You can also make your own jelly rolls. Or get together with some quilting buddies share the cost of the material. a jelly roll is 40 - 2 1/2" strips width of fabric. You can use anywhere from 10 to 40 different fabrics. You could use some ombre fabric and that would give you the sensation of shades of the same color.

Has anyone had a problem with pre-cuts? I've heard they are cut using a laser and can be a little "short".

I can't really offer you any suggestions other than what's been suggested, but personally, I don't buy any pre-cuts, although I have been gifted a couple jelly rolls and had to trim them all down to 2".

I'm beginning to think that precursor are not the way to go. What I liked about them is that they have the whole line in one. What would you buy in it's place?

I love quilting with the 2 1/2" strips. I can even get them in batiks, which I love!

Check out fatquartershop.com. There's a pattern and video for jelly roll jam -- cute pattern and one of the best videos I've ever seen -- I learned lots. Plus you can pause and watch as much as you like. Have fun!

Check your local library too! Some have great selections of quilting books.

I request most of my quilting books from my library's website. If my local branch (just 6 blocks away) doesn't have it, they can get it from any of the others in the system. It's a great way to preview books without having to layout the cash!
