New LQS
Yesterday I went to the Grand Opening of a new LQS about 20 miles from home. I was impressed with what they had to offer for a new business and their willingness to help my sister with a fabric they did not have in store but were willing to order for her. She also said depending on demand she would be willing to make available LA machine to rent by the hour. I hope this comes about. For me 20 miles is a long trip since I rarely go that distance from home anymore. How far do you drive to be able to go to a LQS. I understand there is another one in the other direction that is about the same distance. I am curious on just how far you are willing to drice to a LQS. I had a wonderful morning and I couldn't sleep thinking about all the fun I had. I didn't buy a piece of fabric, though I was tempted. I did buy some rulers for ruler quilting that I want t o learn how to do.. It was a lot of fun.

Nice! I wonder if she will offer basting on her longarm? Making the quilt sandwich is my least favourite thing. I have a quilt shop that offers basting but it is over an hour away. So I would waste gas to drop it off and come home...then another round trip to pick it up so not really practical price wise.

I really hope that all business owners can survive.
Basing on my activities/spending - not many of them will. I have reached the point where I am looking for ways to un-accumulate instead of adding to my stuff.
I can now understand why businesses aim their marketing efforts at younger people.
But - back when I was buying - I would travel many miles and make many trips in search of fabric(s).

I live in rural Idaho so driving is a way of life, but We have a wonderful LQS just 15 miles from here. She is set up on her own property and we call to be sure she is open. The next one is about 30 miles and then 86 if desperate! My favorite is the 1st one, her choices are amazing and seem to fit every ones taste.

I am hoping that she will carry Accuquilt before to long. I hope she will be able to stay in business. We don't have to much out this way I am grateful right now that I live equal distance from both of them. I don't think I would drive much further that 20 miles.

Before I moved two years ago, I drove an hour to hour and half to visit quilt shops. I didn't mind but it was hassle when I ran out of fabric color I needed right then. Now I have three great shops less then ten miles from me. I'm in them all the time to see what is new. I love my new town. We loved living rural when raising our family. The kids got the outdoor upbringing, but now that DH and I are getting old, it's nice to be more in town.

Living in rural Pennsylvania I have always driven to get to quality quilt shops. Not withstanding a trip to the Quilter 's paradise of Lancaster County, I have driven as far as 90 minutes one way to get to a good shop.

A new LQS is always exciting! I was thrilled when my LQS was purchased when it was for sale instead of closing. The new owner has made lots of changes and it is so nice to them. It is about 1 1/2 miles from my house so I can and have walked to it.

How nice to have a new shop close to you. Great customer service will keep them busy and successful. Perhaps you can take a class or teach a class there.
I have 3 LQS that I frequent. The one that sells and services my machine has two shops. One is 27 miles to the the south in the next county. I drove there Saturday to pick up my machine. I purchased the upgrade and a new magnetic hoop too. The sister store (same owners) is 22 miles to the north of me in the county. There were 3-5 classes each month that I attended there. Classes are on hold for now. I am happy to be halfway between both stores. They are like home.
Saturday I also drove to another store again in county to the north. I needed a fabric line that she carried for a BOM quilt. That purchase was for fourteen plus yards. The owner does the LA quilting for me on my quilts. A place just like home too.
