1 1/2 years - my first try st quilting was baby tumbling blocks (you would think that would sour me, but it didn't as I wanted to do that pattern so badly). It turned out acceptable ....... much to my delight!!!

I'm 61 and have been quilting since March 4, 2004. It's easy to remember the date since I wanted to make a gift for my mother's 83rd birthday. My sister in law was living with me at the time and she quilted. I thought it looked like fun, so asked her to show me how. We bought a book called "Irish Chain in a day" (mom was Irish) and the rest as they say is history.

I still have that wonky quilt on my bed given back to me after her death and I love it more each day because it reminds me of how far I've come and of her.

My first quilt was for my daughter when she was born. That was 38 years ago. I still have the quilt and laught at all the mistakes. I didn't have anyone to teach me how to make a quilt. I am now in the process of making one for her son. Big difference. LOL

I am a new quilter. I took a beginning quilting class in October 2010 so I have been quilting for 7 months or 0.5833 years.

I made the first quilt, a lap quilt with 2 different blocks in a beginner's quilt class at my LQS . I took another class using the Yellow Brick Road pattern which made a very large lap quilt for my step daughter. I then made a queen size quilt of batiks for my step-son's graduation, a twin size for my father-in-law of his favorite sports teams (Giants, UConn and baseball with Yankee fleece on the back) which I gave to him about a month before he passed away celebrating his 100th year. (He passed away at age 99.5) and finally I stepped out of the box and made a pieced Cat in the Hat quilt from a panel that I cut apart and added other Dr Suess fabrics...for my year old grand-daughter's Easter gift--it's a lap size. I am starting another twin quilt using some of my father-in-laws shirts for my other step-daughter. I am not sure but I think I will use the Yellow Brick Road pattern as well for that. It is a very forgiving pattern.

I pieced my first top in late 1980's and quilted for the first time in 2010. So to some people I've been a quilter for 23 years and for me I've been a quilter for 1. ;-)
