Kudos to you for teaching her and not being a perfectionist at this stage of the game. She is so cute and concentrating so hard.

I made my first 4H project when I was nine and never stopped sewing. You should be very proud of her.

This is AWESOME. My mom was always sewing and creative in making costumes and quilts etc. I got a small portion of that gene. I hope you have many many hours of quilting time together

Yet another link in the long line of quilters. Not only should you be proud of her but you should give yourself a pat for your time and patience. Hopefully you are making a quilting buddy for life.

She has finished all but the hand sewing on the binding. She did a wonderful job and I'm quite impressed with her sewing skills! I attached the binding because she isn't quite ready to have to be precise, but she did the rest. I had her zig zag for the quilting because some of her seams were a little short, but she did a great job!

You have every right to be proud. It's always nice to see children get started with sewing. It will be fun to see her quilt when she gets it done. Thanks for sharing.

One idea for those of you working with young kids, have then sew on paper and make designs. It lets them get used to the feel of the machin, and working with the presser foot. My daughter would sneak to my machine when I wasn't looking with a blank sheet of paper when she was little. I think letting her do that gave her confidence at the machine. Also, having kids sew on lined paper helps them learn to sew in straight lines, as well as sewing over circles, squares, etc. Before my daughter's next quilt, I'll have her practice sewing straight lines on paper just so she can gain more confidence.

I started on a treadle after being shouted at for playing with the foot pedal. My nephews both learnt early 4 and 8 after they listened to a talk for me showing me the machine. They can both sew by hand . Not unusual in the extended family male or female do the same.

What a sweet thread. Well done for inspiring her creativity and allowing her to learn (surprising how many parents stifle their children). It looks just lovely, and I'm guessing it's the first of many. Thanks for sharing.
