DD who made fleece throws with fringe. She has cut into my mat over and over. I know someone posted how to "fix" this. I wouldn't care so much but it is my big mat. Help , I am upset.

I had a similar problem after making a flanel quilt.

    My mat is an Omnigrid.

First I used the edge of my 6 1/2" squaring ruler to "scrape" the edges, then I wiped it down with a damp cloth. I still had some fairly good "divots" in it so I soaked a bunch of kitchen towels and laid them flat on the mat pressing the water into the mat ... and left them there for a few hours or so.

When I was done I wouldn't "good as new" but it was an improvement.

    Hope this helps.

Something someone reminded me of on another board - flip it over - you paid for both sides. I don't use the lines on my mat for cutting; I use my ruler so not having lines on the flip side is just peachy. Got another few years out of my mat.

You can also use the dollar store pot scrubber to clear up the fluff.

Wow, I'm continually learning new things on this site! I'd never heard of a "mat smoother" - thanks for the tip.
