Started on my grandson's sailboat quilt. A 9 patch design I sketched out myself. Cut the squares tonight, was planning on 3 inch squares finished size. I didn't take into account that that the triangles where sails and sky meet and also where boat and water meet would turnout to be 3 inches when triangles stitched together making them 2 1/2 finished size while remaining squares in the 9 patch are 3 1/2 -- 3 inch finished size. It's fixable, just have to trim down the larger squares 1/2 in on two of the sides.

Sherry that's not just a newbie mistake. I did the same thing yesterday making a Steelers table runner. The blocks will be smaller and the border wider and I'll call it an artistic choice, not a mistake. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!)

There are no mistakes in quilting----just design options.
