Based on a block reference tool I have, they are similar but different. Both are on a nine-patch format with half-square triangles on the corners and a square in the center.
The difference comes in the four non-corner, non-center pieces. In the Shoofly, these are square. In the Churn Dash, they are made of two fabrics sewn together to make the block and sewn parallel to the outside perimeter.
Confusing, yes, but hopefully it makes a little sense.
(My reference is the Quick & Easy Block Tool by C&T Publishing.)
