The only thing the Brother has over Janome is the walking foot and free motion feet are included. Would that make you decide one over the other? Is the Janome a better machine?
The Janome 6600 has these and more.
I think the 6600 would be perfect since it's a sewing machine and quilter but it's like $2000 right? the others are around $600

I have a Elna Quilter's Dream, it's a few years old but I got it used from a dealer, which is the first place I would go, they may have a higher end machine that was traded in and test drive what you think you want. It has a 9 or 10 inch throat. I definitely WOULD NOT buy a new Singer, an old one yes. There are some reasonably priced "long arm" machines like the Bailey and when I have room and money, I'll be getting a Bailey.

Check out a Janome dealer in your area. You may be able to get a really good deal on a 6600 or a 6500 as a lot of people are trading them in on the Horizon. I have a Horizon and absolutely love it (it has an 11 inch throat) but they are very expensive - $2500 to $3000.

I paid $1500 for my Janome 6600 several years ago. I think they are less than that now. Definitely check out a dealer for a good deal.

I have a Juki TL98-Q which came with the walking foot, 1/4 foot, 2 FMQ feet and bobbins. I have FMQ'd about 30-40 quilts on it and love it. Was originally $899 but I think on ebay they are reduced now as the Juki 2000Q came out recently. I can't rave enough about my machine. I sew daily after work and FMQ at least 1 quilt a week for someone. I did 4 this week. Never lets me down. In fact I just ordered a new frame and 2000Q combo.

Hum, I typed up a post but it didn't post. I suspect it's due to the service here. Anyhow, I am bookmarking this conversation because it address exactly what I am looking for :) Next year, when I can get a new machine, I'll know what to look for. Thank you so much quilters :)

I got my 6600 for just over a $1,000. You might be able to find a really nice used one for under that.

My best advise is to test drive a few machines in your budget & let the dealers know what you are looking for- you may be able to get more machine for your $ with a used one. I don't know anything about Brother machines so can't help you there but I do love my Janome 1600P. Maybe someone on this board has the Brother you are looking at & can give you some info.
