I'm trying to save my $ to get a nice quilting machine. I'm looking for something with a large throatplate that will allow me to get my quilts through easily for quilting. Right now I have a Brother CS-6000 and the throatplate is only 5" I think that's what its' called. Anyway, what do you think is a nice affordable machine? I can't spend $1000 but don't want to waste $ either.

Anyone have a Singer 4423 Heavy Duty Commercial Grade Sewing Machine? I see it on ebay for $169 and it looks really nice.

I have a Janome 1600P with a 9" bed & I love it! It was around $800, is a single stitch & I can fit a big quilt through it. I don't have a frame for it but I do a lot of
FMQ on it & really like it. I researched a lot of machines because I didn't need a lot of bells & whistles, just a bigger bed space & am happy with the decision I made.

$700 buys a Brother 1500S with a 9.5 inch throat. It's a straight stitch only machine. Mine came with an extension table, all the feet you need, dozens of bobbins, thread and a carrying case.

I have a 6600 and its got a 9" throat. Has a few more bells and whistles than the 1600 and has been wonderful to quilt with. I did a 104x110 on it, wasn't a breeze, but worked.

Ditto. I have this same machine. I won it on ebay for $ 700. I love, love, love it! It is on a handi quilter 2 frame. I didn't have a lot of money to spend either. But it is perfect for my needs. I didn't need bells and whistles.

You can probably find a used Bailey 13" for about $1000.
People love their Bailey's and tend to stick with them. You can also use it on a table or on a frame.

thanks so much! I love those machines that's just what i was looking for. I didn't know I could get a machine like that for $700!!! I am thinking it's between the brother 1500S and Janome 1600P. The only thing the Brother has over Janome is the walking foot and free motion feet are included. Would that make you decide one over the other? Is the Janome a better machine?
