Nine patch or disappearing nine patch in shades of same color?

Haven't made a pad for the cat but put a half yd piece of fleece at the foot of my bed and the two cats take turns on who is going to sleep with me on the fleece. Mine is just a piece with cats all over it. I know your Mom's cat will love it and I like the idea of the soft (fleece) as a trim. They do like to knead the soft stuff. Sometimes they even do it in their sleep.

Mom doesn't really like quilts, so this is as close as I can get to getting to make Mom a quit. :) (So why do I take my quilts to show to her??? Don't have an answer for that...hoping she will really like one, I guess.)
Shades of blue would be wonderful ... you can get blue so light it's almost white if you have a hankering to put white in it.

I made a 9 patch with a snowball block in between; had 9 different fabrics for the patch, just varied their location, the snowball with green with a darker green in corner which was also a border. Don't have a photo, but it's very pleasing color-wise

here is a picture of one done in 30's fabric, like a regular 9 patch, then cut for the D9P..and one done totally scrappy. they look so different.! i have done the scrappy, with just the center block the same color/fabric in all the blocks.
no matter how you out it together..you can't go wrong!
