It's wonderful when you find a fabric windfall, and yours is even more special because it comes with family memories attached. I'd trade a dozen thrift store finds for one family treasure!

I inherited my late mom's stash because I'm the daughter who sews. I am now making memory quilts for each of my three sisters (and me!) as well as my four nieces. I also got her Singer 15-90 that works, but which I want to get "serviced" and put in prime sewing condition so I too can brag about my vintage machine. :-)

Dad had given me Mom machine a while back as she wanted to sew and with dementia she had it in a "mess". Took it in for repairs and just kept here at my house. I have several "ideas" going through my head for all the stash that I brought home. One is for my granddaughter which is my Mom's favorite. The sad part is my granddaughter is the only child she can remember (as they do live close & visit often) with her dementia. Mom has forgotten she has "45" other grandchildren :( The quilt that will be "special" for Piper :)

That is great! I had the "Quilting Fairy" with me three weeks ago at a Garage Sale. A very nice woman had moved here from Idaho and had BOXES of fabric. When she found out that I am a quilter she gave me four huge boxes of fabric and a large box of patterns for $20. I thought I was going to have to speed away in case she changed her mind! We swapped e-mail addresses and are planning to go to a local guild meeting together.

Wow that is so neat. Sorry to hear your Mother isn't doing well. My DGM had alzheimers and dimentia, there towards the end I couldn't take my family around her cause she got real mean. It was sad cause I was the grandchild that grew up around her, I didn't get a single thing of hers after she passed away. Atleast I have all the quilts she made for me over the years. Cherish your Mother while you can.

Wonderful, I wish I had a GGM, GM or Mother to inherit from! Maybe I will just be so lucky to find a good buy! :) I am slowly getting material, but I have to watch what I spend now that Hub is retired and I have too. :)
