Oh - great tips! I'm gonna try the spool thing on the next binding.
That's a whole lot better than what i can see happening with the toilet paper roll...roll on TP roll, start sewing binding, get up to answer the door, leave binding trailing throughout house, reroll, sit, sew a bit, get up to go to bathroom and forget it's there again, unroll throughout house, reroll...repeat!)

How clever all of you are! I just do big loopy yards and yards long binding around my neck, and sew it on, next thing you know, I am leaning closer and closer to the machine, then I am choking myself and am a little too close to the machine to get myself free.
All in all I think answering the door with a toilet paper roll is better than hubby finding me choked to death by my own quilt!

I use the same method except that I don't use TP rolls. My DH cut me some 1" PVC about 3" long and then smoothed off the edges. I have also used empty adding machine paper rolls. The good thing about this is that as I iron my binding in half, I roll it up on the tube. I pin it at the end and it keeps it nice and pressed until I'm ready to sew on the binding. I've been using this method for several years and I've never strangled myself or answered the door with it around my neck - y'all are so funny!
