Default not so square blocks from my go cutter

I just cut out a great stack of 6 1/2 inch blocks with my go. They are 6 1/2 by 6 3/8 inch. I put them into the cutter with the grain like it says to do.
Has anyone else had this happen? What did I do wrong?

Cut a piece of paper with the die, then measure it. The die may be off, in which case you need to contact Accuquilt. If the paper measures correctly, how many layers of fabric were you cutting? I cut fewer layers than the max recommended because I found that the upper layers slipped.

I've had that problem - we must be making an error as to how we place fabric on die. Yesterday I cut strips into 6 1/2 rectangles and about 7 of them were wonky. Don't know what I do, but it's something. Doesn't happen often, but it definitely has before.

Good to know this happens with dies. I have a different cutter but want to learn what not to do so will be watching this thread. How many layers did you cut? And we're they ALL off?

I starch the fabric before I cut it, that seems to work best for me. Also different brands of cotton fabric cut differently too. I have cut squares that were off with one fabric and get perfect cuts from another fabric. If the paper you cut is not a true square then ask for a replacement die.

Starching the fabric before cutting has helped me. I also only use a couple of layers.

I've noticed sometimes that I may have one block out of 5 cutting that may be off a tiny bit, could be the fabric wasn't completely wrinkled free or the bias was off in that particular one. But if you do like paper princess suggested and it's like that..contact the company.

one other thing. If your cutting pad has been used a lot, it may be very rough. If you cut more than one layer, the cutting pad may be grabbing the top layer and pulling it out of alignment as it goes thru the rollers. You can put a piece of paper between the cutting pad and the fabric. I just use newsprint.

Paper Princess is right. A worn cutting mat is the same as using a dull rotary cutter. I use to save my old mats but got over that and toss them right along with the dull rotary blades.

It's possible that as you ran the die through the cutter, the fabric stretched slightly and then went back to it's original shape when you were done cutting. That would make the one side slightly smaller. If you starch before cutting (as someone else suggested) that should take care of the problem. Good luck!
