I had no idea you shouldn't wash fabric that would be used for an OBW, that's my "learn something new every day" thing for today!
My learning for the day too!

What I suggest you do is find another fabric to border each hexagonal piece and join them together and you will end up with a sort of Grandma's Flower Garden. This willsave expense, disappointment and time - I am speaking from experience..,

I agree, especially for a wall quilt. The only time I wash fabrics, and I don't really like to, is for swaps.

    Totally agree~!

I'm a "washer" of fabric, so with my first OBW I really had to resist the desire to wash it. On the other hand, thinking of having to starch and iron the 5 yards I was going to use quickly had me doing as the book said.

To anyone else who hasn't yet made one...go ahead, put it on your "to do" list because it's an easy (except deciding block placement  ) and unique quilt pattern. You could make two quilts using the same fabric and not come up with the identical quilt.

getting rid of the chemicals by washing and then wouldn't starching the fabric make it easier to cut. and to stop the stretching. Just a thought

Might work.....just remember...yards and yards and yards and yards...to wash, dry, starch and iron.
