I am guessing that the ruler you have gives different sizes of a regular pineapple block; the angles in each quarter are the same. Looking at the offset block, the angles change.

Here is a link to see what I mean. A candidate for foundation piecing perhaps?

20 yrs ago when I was in Paducah, KY at the quilt museum I bought a book on Pineapple quilts as that is what was featured in the museum that yr. I just looked at the book and the blocks that are off set are all paper pieced. So probably the ruler would not work for that particular block

I did an off set pineapple quilt and it was a paper pieced pattern. It was an easy pattern to follow the pattern came from a book that was no longer in print but I did find it on Amazon.

One available offset pineapple pattern is called Great Balls of Fire. You can download the foundation templates here: https://www.quiltingcompany.com/grea...09-quiltmaker/

There is a link to the magazine it appeared in at that link as well.

I've only ever seen it done by foundation paper piecing. Like Bobbinalong said, the weird corner angles would likely make the ruler not work. That being said, does your ruler allow for different width strips? You could try doing a test block with 1" strips on two adjacent sides (say, top and left) and 2" strips on the other two sides. I don't know how that would work with the corner strips, though; I've never been able to wrap my head around the geometry of this block.

If you do foundation piecing, I linked a pattern in my reply to Bobbinalong. It's been on my To Do list for years!
