I’m new here, but I’m trying to make my husband a double Irishh
chain quilt with the Ohio State University O in the middle.
Can someone help me on how to do the O? I can’t find it now, but
some posted something similar on another thread. I would like
to get this done as a Christmas gift. The O would go in the
6 x 22 in white space. Any help would be appreciated!

Welcome! I did a google search for Ohio State University quilts and picked one of the images that came up that had the O in the double Irish Chain. http://madebymissjill.blogspot.com/2...ate-quilt.html
That blog said the O was appliqued. You are going to have to decide if you want to machine applique or hand applique the O if appliqueing is how you want to do it. You can piece the O to standardize its shape and then applique it down, or cut the O out in one piece from fabric. Play with paper in your 6 x 22 in space to get your O to the right size. I suspect youtube is going to be the fastest way to figure out how to applique the O down.
This sounds like a great project to get done by Christmas. Don't forget to show a picture when you're done.

I agree that applique for the O in the center is how some have done it. Here are a few particular posts for someone looking for ideas.

Trying to visualize the space being 6 x 22. Is this going to have a center medallion? My Double Irish Chain the center piece of the block is 6 x 6. You can definitely do an applique of the "O" or possibly buy an embroidered iron-on patch., then use a zig-zag stitch to attach it to the block. Maybe contact someone with an embroidery machine and have them make one. I can't believe someone on Etsy couldn't whip them up for you if you can't get them ordered from the school book store. How many do you need? I use embroidery in my quilts all the time and they hold up very well.
Good luck finding what you want,
