I have used straight for years...however after much research I found that bias wears SOOO much better. So, I went online and searched out bias making and go to the extra time and work. I don't bias bind on wall hangings..just useable quilts.

I usually use straight but have used a bias binding with striped fabric to add a little extra punch.

I always use a doubled bias - it stays more "even" ... less prone to stretching as you sew it on the front and then again by hand on the back.

I have friends that always use bias binding but many of my quilting buddies will just use the straight for "normal" quilts.
The only time I use bias binding is for design purposes (as with plaids or stripes).

Can I ask another question in the middle of this post? For the people answering here who use both bias and straight....

I always use continuous bias binding that I double. I find the bias a dream to use and work with, love the design possibilities with patterned fabric, mitres are easy, and joining the ends is a cinch. Is straight grain binding easier to use?

To me, the straight grain binding is easier to use on a straight edge since I don't have to worry so much about stretching it out of shape.

I find the straight binding easier to use, but I do piece it on the bias. It makes a less bulky seam.
