I have to set my machine to a slower speed so I don't go to fast or I get wavy lines.

We're really supposed to sew EXACTLY straight???? I thought it was just a suggestion.

you guys make me laugh, my rulers aren't that straight either. I have bought a 1/4 foot that really helps out.

    Please define 'straight'. lol
P.S. It helps to sew slower like you stated, but then train your eye to sew ahead of the needle. Then, when you get within a few stitches of the pin, take the pin out. If you are right handed, pin to the right so you are pulling it out with your right hand. Left-handed, pin on the left. There should be enough pressure from the foot to hold the fabric that you no longer need that pin. You do this often enough you will be 'trained' to do it without thinking about it. Hopefully. Not good to sew over pins. For the machine or your eyes.

I do OK for the most part and I set my machine speed just past the mid-point. Most of the time I use the 1/4" foot with the edge guide. That helps me. Sometimes it's the machine and how the feed-dogs are aligned.

I agree with sharon b. Straight is a relative term. I can sew straight, sometimes I do from corner to corner. It's the best seam I ever sewed--- just not what I was supposed to sew. I really love "jack" the ripper, he's firmly attatched to my hand.

The magnetic credit card trick works best for me and if i am doing something that needs a different size seam it is easy to move

Jan, I'm going to try your idea. I've had trouble with 1/4" straight seams without a seam guide on my old viking. (215).
It really showed up with the log cabin blocks I was trying to make. I will try to set needle position 1/4" but I don't have a Bernina. Thanks for this suggestion

I try to keep it straight but you know what they say about something happening. LOL. Maybe my mind wanders so my stitching line does also. I keep it as straight as I can but unless it is really off, I just keep on trucking.
