Thank you this is exactly the kind of info I am looking for. Any other opinions anyone!?

Oh, I would love to get in there and move them around. Like Jan, I don't see many dark fabrics but lots of mediums.

I always get my DH to help me with this kind of stuff. He's red/green colour blind and is amazing with hue and shape.

Oh I bet he is. What a wonderful use of color blindness.

I guess that's my secret weapon. I'm also color blind and that's exactly how I was explaining it to a friend of mine recently. That's it: a built in filter. If there's got to be an upside to it, I guess that's it.

I too, wasn't struck by any that really read dark compared to all that's pictured.

I have such a hard time using that red "thingy". I just go with my "feeling" of it.

I know, not very scientifically accurate.

Are you looking for a continuous change in value (hue is color, I think value is the word you mean) from 1 to 26, or just within each photo?

The way I do it ( to determine colour value) for my paintings is to stand back and look at the colours through half closed eyes, so you are sort of squinting at it. This makes it much easier to read the hues from light through to dark. Does take a little practice.
    Hope this helps.
