    stand back and squint your eyes or if you wear glasses, take them off and look

    Don't spend too much time with the decision. Toss them in a pile, rearrange as your "gut" tells you to and go with it. You could spend the rest of the year trying to get "just the right" comgination. You can analyze and re-analyze and the last arrangement won't be any better than the first.
    I taught classes in watercolor quilts and know how this works.

    that should have been watercolor quilt classes.

    Another factor here is the wide range of texture you have which can play as much a part as hue.

    My favorite pattern of all K. I have made 2. I just sit in the middle of the floor, with my material around me. and pick up one, and go with what it looks like to me , fast. I do mine in lights, mediums, and darks. Never thought to do it in black and white. Can't wait to see it, know it will be beautiful!!

    Here's how I see them from lightest to darkest.

    Lights - 7, 8, 21, 24 and 4
    Mediums - 26, 16, 17, 18, 22, 23, 13, 14 and 25
    Darks - 12, 15, 2, 3, 5, 19, 20, 6, 9, 1, 11 and 10

    Obviously, the delineation between what is considered a light vs. medium and medium vs. dark is subjective. The lighter mediums could perhaps be considered lights and the lighter darks considered meduims to even out the 3 categories.

    Lights to me are:

    Dark
    1 5 6

    All the others I see as Med.

    Squinting, this is how I read them:
    Lights = 7, 8
    Darks = 3,5,9,10
    Mediums = all the rest

    But I like what Hollis said too - just go for it & don't agonize about it too much! :wink:
