My quilting buddy has that Janome and she loves it but doing quilts, she goes thru one in about a years time. They are light weight but don't hold up real well if you do a lot of quilting. The 301 will last a lifetime or two.

If you must have something that does decorative stitches by all means go with the Janome. But if you only need a straight stitch the 301 would be my my suggestion. Shoulder issues aside, if you have a rollling case to replace the original case the Singer will last forever.
