    Default old embroidery thread

Cousin asking about a quilt that had squares put together to form Beautiful quilt--very old and worried about the embroidery floss colors running into white background--does anyone know whether this old floss will fade into quilting fabrics--Thanks so much... lifelong novice-

If it's a very old quilt I'm guessing it's probably been washed many times by now. If the colors haven't run yet, they are not likely to now. Wash with a color catcher for insurance?

Many of the older flosses did run into the background fabrics, and I would suggest it being washed with a colour catcher & in cool water. I still have some floss from my grandma and if you put the skein into water it bleeds out a lot of colour.
