Ombre fabrics - how do you use them?
#21
Wow, I love that fabric. My brain hadn't wrapped itself around any exciting ways to use an ombre fabic either... but now, after reading all these posts I am itching to give some a try! I checked out Debra's http://www.toadusew.com/ suggestion. Now I'm enthralled with Karen's lead to Nancy Zieman. As well as the TV episodes, she did a book on it too: Versatile Ombre Quilting. And Jan, aren't you just hankering to try that flying geese border?
You all are terrific!

You can cut them into long strips and use them to make varigated 3D flowers; as if you were using varigated ribbons. You could also cut a block from each side indepently; they'd bo beautifully in a quilt and even the center could be used to be a two tone block; there are so many possiblilites.

I agree with Lori S about the mfg. aiding the consumer! I have purchased several ombre fabrics and found two of them quite useful in artsy quilts (totally non-traditional). I wonder if yours could be used for a kaleidoscope. I have never made one, so am not familiar with the ideal fabrics for the process. Your fabric is wonderful!

Fabrics like this confuse me. I'm not sure what to do with them.
This is a picture of the full width of the fabric, from selvedge to selvedge.
Having very little imagination, the first thing that comes to mind is "trip around the world" because I can spy six or seven distinct color areas.
But that's not really a very creative idea, so...
... do you have any suggestions on how to use fabrics like this?
