Try using the thicker larger rubber bands around each and sponge to hold them in place when moving your hands. Hey it's worth a try.

I've been using ladies'-size garden gloves with the dots. Works well, but as someone said, it's too hot for that now. My hands get "sweaty." Will go out and get a set of sponges for this purpose. I'm right in the middle of doing a quilt right now. Thanks for the tip.

Jeanne S, I too love my machingers but don't like having to take my rings off to use them every time. The material the Machingers are made of snag on my rings all the time so I have to take off my rings then quilt then back on with the rings (I feel naked without them) then off with the rings...it's a never ending battle & forbid if I lost a ring ACK!

on a fmq show, I found my newest favorite tip. The instructor used a bit of shelf liner. I bought 1/8 yd and cut about a 5" piece. Very easy to move to the new spot, never awkward, not hot like gloves, plenty of extra to replace if ever gets lost or dirty (but can be washed) and best of all it cost me 50 cents for the whole strip!

I really like glycerine. Just a drop or two on your hands and it doesn't get hot, is very inexpensive, gives you a good grip and does not stain the fabric. You reapply after washing hands. A small bottle in my quilt supplies is a must.

I've not tried these yet, but somewhere on QB someone mentioned having some sort of elastic strap that they attached to the sponges to slip their hands through so that they didn't have to keep picking up the sponges. I have a cheap pair of quilting gloves from Fons and Porter that I use when I've got big quilt pieces to push through the machine.
And here it is again!! Thanks to Slightlyoffquilter for that one.

I saw these Grip and Stitch pads being demoed at the Paducah Quilt Show this year, and while they seemed to work well, couldn't get over the price. I wondered if you could easily exchange them for scrub sponges, and you just answered my question!

Hi.is this a silly idea ? Could you just put an elastic band around them and over your hands,then you would'nt have to put them down.I am just off to bed after a very busy day so maybe I'm dizzy.
