I like this pattern that was published in Quilty Jan/Feb 2018:
    http://quiltingdigest.com/strippy-py...heerful-quilt/

The strips for this pattern can vary in size from 1-1/4" wide to 2-1/4", so you could augment your strips with yardage, if you like. The strips are sewn into strip sets, then cut into the triangles.

Note: Instead of purchasing the pattern at that website, you can purchase the entire Quilty magazine in digital format for the same price.

Note 2: It's really true that magazines are re-cycling patterns now!

I did a Snake River log cabin quilt in scrappy darker colors and neutrals - used up quite a bit of my 1 1/2" strips.

Narrow sashing between blocks. Strip quilts, narrow "logs" between regular logs in log cabin blocks. "Leading" in stained glass quilts. Cut them in squares and make a miniature "trip around the world" or postage stamp quilt.

I used this as inspiration for a doll quilt. Each strippy triangle was a party hat.

This size is also useful for doing appliqued lettering.
