Default Opinion on Calico's

    Yay or nay?

    Just curious.

Too "prairie" for some I would suppose.....not sure how they'd work in more modern designs.

    Just wondering.

I like calicos when I want the piecing to shine rather then the fabrics.

I've been using a bunch of my calicos in scrappy quilts. Any fabric works for me!

I think they could work in modern quilts if they're mixed with some fesh solids, like white or light gray.

I like calico fabric. I have quite a bit in my stash, but I seem to rarely use it. May do something about that!

I don't think I have purchased calicos myself but have some in my stash from friends. I used some brown ones in the #12 mystery on the forum here.

When I am looking for a specific color I look at all fabric - so some are calico.

I 'think' in Australia calico is what we call muslin here.

Never use calico prints as I make more modern designs and they just never seem to work for me. I usually associate them with more country style, what you called 'prairie', in more traditional quilts.

Funny you should ask this today. Earlier this evening I went through my bags of scraps that I've collected from years of sewing. I wanted some red, white and blue scraps for a project and found what I needed from an old quilt I made with calicos. My answer is yay.
