I am starting to work on items for our November craft sale. I made some potholders for Christmas but unless I can find cheaper yardage, I think these will have to be priced too high for people to buy. I would need at least $15 a potholder to make any money....do you think people would be willing to pay that much? These are from Susie C Shore Designs called Christmas Trio of Potholders

they are really cute, but 3-4 dollars is all I'd pay for a pot holder. Maybe 5 tops for gifts, but these are seasonal so I wouldn't buy them for christmas gifts. If you make more, maybe a chicken theme or food fabrics?

they're really adorable. personally, i wouldn't spend that much, but i'm sure the right audience would.

MY OPINION ONLY: I always seek avenues to sell my sewing. What worked for me is Craft boutique, they sell high and keep commission. Then, approach some consignment shops and ask some might be willing to take on your item.. Selling for dirt cheap in my view is an insult to the skilled worker behind the product. Quild sometimes have activities near Xmas time that might have vendor tables..

Can try ebay, etsy. some have been successful.. Word of mouth always work, sit at coffee venue, put your item under your coffee and see the public reaction that also worked for me.. Can simply be an act like: "Ooh it's cold in here, and wrap yourself with your quilt" Publicly selling in a public venue is illegal without vendors permit in Manitoba. But show/tell free. I've promoted my recycled sweatshirt in Starbucks by wearing it.. Nothing wrong with having your sweatshirt embroider a logo, name on them which catch the public eye, who will ask "what is that company" or a www. address on your shirt where they will look it up on their mobile, laptop etc.. Takes work/time!

I priced my Mug rugs at $8.00 at a small quilt show early this spring and didn't sell even one. You really have to cut corners and buy your fabric and trims when on sale at 50% to keep your prices as low as possible. If you put them in a shop, they are going to want a cut so if they are priced at $25.00, do you think they will sell?? I always pass on any saving to my clients. Remember, you only bring out Xmas things after Thanksgiving and put them away Jan 1st. Good Luck. They are adorable !! You might try selling on eBay but then they take 9% out of your sales including shipping charges and PayPal will take 2.9% off of your sales. TOO confusing for this old dog so I quit selling.

Your potholders are beautiful and impeccably made, but I don't think anyone will pay that much, either. I can't see asking more than $9 for them and people will be picky even at that price. Can you do a simpler version for the craft fair? Perhaps "birthed" instead of binding? Something you can turn out faster and leave more room for profit?

What about using scraps of red and green flannel like from old flannel shirts? That's what I would do. White flannel plaid, green and red flannel plaid. Even blue flannel shirts with snowflakes out of old doilies to attach.

The general public want Walmart pricing. Other quilters, like me, would pay $15 because they are darn cute and I wouldn't have to make them!

Those are adorable! I wouldn't even want to use them as actual potholders, for fear of getting food on them. Can you market them as something else? Perhaps leave off the hanging tab and call them winter wall hangings? Or are they small enough to hang on a tree, or from a mantel? I agree that $15 for a potholder is more than most people will pay.

Maybe you could get $15 for them as a tree ornament, mantel trim, or wall hanging -
