Thank you all for your comments and suggestions. You are so generous!
Sounds like warm and white is the way to go with the bat. I'll have to ensure I get that. I will be sending out for quilting and binding. I've done it myself before, but with an oversized king, it's just too much for me to handle with my 'ol singer. And just not my favorite part of the process.
After a day of driving to quilt shops, and bringing home a few fat quarter samples for DH, we settled on a Bella solid aqua for the back and an orange w teeny floral motif for binding (right side of photo). (Rejected happily went to my stash: soft orange floral for back, an orange gingham for binding, and a green polka dot for binding.)
I'll be joining the backing w a vertical strip of my scraps. What do you think?

I don't see why you couldn't use a mottled "blender type" orange fabric on the back. I prefer to use Warm & Natural cotton batting, and I haven't had a problem with the backing fabric showing through to the front. The orange would really make the backing pop, especially if you use the stripe of all the front fabrics down the back of the quilt. Great quilt, love the bright colors.

Love your quilt, colors are great. I can't help on the back but would use a mottled orange or peach or like someone said, maybe stripes of different colors in the quilt is you have left over material, including orange in there two.

Yes this if your question is regarding the quilting. do use the same color thread on the top as the bottom. By using white on thread for quilting, both top and bottom, and using orange fabric, tone on tone, on the back, you will see a secondary pattern on the back. It will look like a whole cloth quilt.
I would wash the backing to make sure it is color fast. If it is, I would go with orange on the back but quilt it with white thread on top and in the bottom bobbin. The white on the orange would make it reversible if you wanted as the quilting design would show up well. Beautiful top!

Erika, your quilt is beautiful - your colors really pop!! I must agree that a medium color value would be my choice. Too light and it's wishy-washy, too dark and you chance the dark showing through. Please post photos of your final choice. Remember, there are no quilt police - we do what pleases us. It's already a gorgeous piece of work!!
