Yeah, I've seen her video and she rubs her duster across the fabric. She's only 24 you know. She's a very clever woman.

Thanks to everyone who has helped with this query. You ladies are just tremendous!

There was a post a few weeks ago about chalk clouding the lens of the BSR (stitch regulator) on the Berninas that have that feature.
I've started using an old soapstone marker that I bought at quilt shop years ago. I find that I like that better than the chalk.

Soap stone, "casual quilter"? Is it in the form of a pencil? Or do you wipe it on?

I think I'm going off the chalk - don't want it to clog up precision equipment~ !

You can make stencils by 'sewing' on your drawing with an old needle. You will get little dots.

Old cinnamon works on lighter fabric and it smells nice.

After pouncing/rubbing but before using my machine, I gently blow away the loose dust. There is still enough marking left to work with as long as I don't drag anything over it.

I have tried a lot of different marking tools but haven't had any success with them until I tried the chalk pencils that F&P put out.

I use afoam brush to put the chalk on -- I saw this on F&P and it uses less chalk and I can get it exactly where I want it.

That sounds like a great idea and I am going to try it sometime.

Never used chalk and I was very intrigued.
I use the pencil Sewline trio [url] http://www.amazon.com/Sewline-Fabric-Mechanical-Pencil-Trio/dp/B002LMTHKE [/ url]
With a simple twist tip you choose black, white or single frame, is very useful in all fabrics.
Thanks for all the data provided!
    A hug!

There was a vendor on the quilt show circuit some years ago who used the chalk pounce to mark for hand quilting. they would pounce the design using a plastic stencil and then spray with hair spray. This kept the chalk from rubbing off while they hand quilted.
