    Default Opinions Needed Please

As usual, I have managed to make things more difficult for myself. I am about to cut the pieces for the Robert Kaufman Cascade pattern. But I want to use a 4 1/2" tumbler block instead of the 6" one in the pattern, and I want to make it more symmetrical. I have enough fabric for everything except the fabric at the far right--the light creme. It is available at two places online--but I would have to pay the international shipping--ouch! Do you think one of these other fabrics would do, or should I just bite the bullet and order?

So, my photos show: No.1 The original fabrics from the kit. They are laid on the plain creme colour that is the sashing. No.2 Fine figured creme on creme No.3 Creme with small rust flowers No.4 creme with light and darker dots and finally No.5 A similar fabric but it is metallic gold and there is no metallic in the other fabrics.

And I hope I get the photos in the right order.

I don't care for number 3 or number 5 ....but I think 2 or 4 would work. Of course the colours could look different in real life than on my screen. I think you will be the best judge of that.

Above is a link to the pattern. I don't think I would put #3 in the center. #2 fades too much into the background, and I wouldn't want to introduce the metallic in only one fabric, so I vote for #4. However here's another idea. If you have enough of the original fabric (#1) to use it in the center tumbler blocks, you could use #4 in the outer blocks that call for #1, and that would be a valid design choice.

Two here, with four in second place. No metallic for me and three is too busy with the other fabrics.

I think number four would work well together in this pattern. Switching out the fabrics actually make the quilt more original and unique. So go for it. Definitely not buy additional fabric!

Your first choices don't seem to fit with the ornate, flourishy feel of the kit fabrics, so I would either go with the last one, or, if that is standing out too much because of the metallic, keep looking for something locally that is more in keeping with the others, or failing that, order the original fabric.

That is a great pattern! My favorite is #4. Can't wait to see your finished top. Please post a pic.
