love my brother, but if you want a sturdy machine, go for husqvarna viking! they will sew anything, make sure it has all the features you want too. sorry, ive sewn all my life on a singer- and now they are junk! do yourself a favor-
go to quilt shows, and see what you like, and what features they have, and what kind of distance you live from the dealer,
dont get one that too far away, cuz if something goes out on it, it may take a while to fix.
happy hunting!

I have an old Elna Supra (blue) that will sew over anything. When I bought it I was told it will sew anything if I used the correct needle. I even managed to repair a tote bag that I had to sew through cardboard. I still have it, though I have a Janome 7700 that I use most of the time now.

Girlfriend,
I have both types rotary and oscillating hook machines. I haven't noticed any difference in stitch quality. I have a 1936 Singer 201(rotary hook, drop in bobbin) 1949 Singer 15-90(oscillating hook, vertical bobbin),1955 Pfaff 60(oscillating hook, vertical bobbin) all of these machines do straight stitch only and are treadle powered. Berninas 930(will sew pretty much whatever I can get under the presser foot) and 1031(oscillating hook, vertical bobbin) multiple zig zag stitches and straight stitch. Pfaff 1222E(rotary hook, vertical bobbin & built-in walking foot).
I've owned some of these machines for years and sew with all of them.
I've been sewing for over 40 years and have sewn with many different brands and types of machines.
