that quilt is gorgeous. add the borders with the fabric you have if they will be wide enough to compliment the existing centre. man, it's lovely!

This is beautiful....not sure what I would do though. I really like as it is. But then another row would not be that bad. Or the borders on the end.

Gorgeous quilt. Check out www.maryquilts.com. Scroll down on left hand side menu to log cabin for en example of what you can do border wise.

If you have enough to make enough blocks to make a runner to go over the pillows. That way it doesn't add to the quilt itself but they'd be able to cover the pillows and the quilt could be laid farther down at the bottom end.

Love your colors by the way.

Should I try that, or would something else work? I'm afraid the extra row will really screw up the symmetry. What about borders: can I do just two sides or make two longer than the others? Again, I really don't have a lot of extra material to play with so any borders would be pretty thin. Thanks for your input.

I'm leaning toward more border at the top end, assuming they will put pillows over that end. And a border will save the symmetry

There is no required size for strips in a log cabin. Make them the size you want.

Gorgeous quilt. I haven't seen this variation of a log cabin before. I often made my side borders narrower than my end borders for no other reason than it would be wider than my quilt frame, I ran short of fabric, or I just want it a little longer than what it is. It always looks great. I'm a border person, if it's even only a small border, because I don't like loosing any of my quilt to binding. Whatever you do they will love it. I they don't I would take it! lol

Unless you want it bigger for some reason, I think it is perfect as is. In my humble opinion, I would only bind it, without borders. I has good hang all around and looks great.
