If you want it longer, you could add another row of log cabin blocks, or you could just add slightly larger borders on the top and bottom, with slightly narrower side borders. I think it looks lovely just the way it is

If it were mine I would want it to be longer at the bottom so when the bed is all made it didn't look short on the end, I don't think the symetry is going to look off on the bed if you added something to make it rectangular. I would add a border at the top and bottom. Just my 2 cents!

My Grandma told me that when making a quilt for a bed, it is your quilt and any way that makes it fit and suits your eye is right. Took me a long to time to accept that, but she was right. lay it out on your bed and place your borders like auditioning fabric for it and you will come up with your answer

Your log cabin quilt is beautiful just as it is. If the quilt is to be used as a "spread", if I modified it at all, it would be to add to the top in the same pattern as the rest of the quilt, perhaps using smaller strips, to cover your pillows on the bed. Whatever you decide to do, just know the quilt is absolutely gorgeous!

Why not leave it square and let the recipient put on a coordinating bed skirt? If this quilt is a gift, how about gifting a bed skirt with the quilt? I made a queen size quilt that was 'almost square'. It worked out well with a bed skirt on the bed.
