I'm not sure how it's "supposed" to be done, but yes, I'm going to applique them. It is pretty easy to do the back ground. I cut 4 strips of white at 5" and 4 strips of black at 5" (44 inches in length). Sewed them up so it was a set of 8 alternating strips. Cut in half (top to bottom) and in half (left to right) ... BUT ... you must cut your diagonals very carefully.

I didn't, and I did't have the "pinwheel" in the middle unless the bottom four were "inside out". Instead of redoing it, I just took them apart and resewed them with the seams going to the other side!

If you have more suggestions, keep them coming!!!

Thanks so much to those who have taken the time - greatly appreciated!

Oh I’m partial to quilts that have an optical illusion/3D effect. This one is particularly good!

Looks awesome! You might consider placing the blocks from small to large from the center starting point. The center being the furthest distance in the vortex, hence the tiny blocks...then work them to the outer edge by size. Just a thought.

So cool watching the evolution of this quilt. Please let us see how you decide to finish it. Beautiful idea!

Gets better all the time. I see the pink one lost its black top. Good choice. Now maybe try to cover a little more of the spot where the black border is next to the black in the square. Makes a large area of black.
But I really like it as it is, too.

OK! I took all of the suggestions, and did some more re arranging! Teen you were right! I totally forgot about that aspect when I was rearranging

One thing I am noticing ... the black border has white bubbles in it, and it isn't really showing up very well in the pics. But in real life LOL you can definitely tell that there's a border!

    Here's the latest
