I have done this with several quilts of similar size to yours on a machine with a 6 1/2" throat. Machingers or grippy gardening gloves help. I don't roll it, but just focus on the line I'm doing and making sure that there's nothing to get caught and slow down the quilt and definitely nothing in back of the machine to keep the quilt from moving forward. Only half of the quilt has to fit to the right of the needle. It's doable.

To test the fit and practice the motion, you could remove the needle and presser foot and just try to see whether it will fit. I know some machines have an exceptionally small throat space, but most will hold as much quilt as you have. Then make a small sandwich, such as a placemat or mug rug to practice the technique with needle and thread. It's easy, but you will have more confidence for working with the bigger piece after you gain a little muscle memory. You could slowly sing "Row, row, row your boat" while "rowing" right and left, but it's pushing rather than pulling, so I guess your boat will be going backwards.

Exactly as Jeanne says. gloves and flat hands, no need to grab or grasp the guilt. And don't roll it. I've done several this way.

Rose_P lol You made me think. lol I thought I went backwards when pulling the oars to row the boat... lol Boy! I haven't been on the lake in a row boat for a while...
