"you need a ripping blade." He said matter of factly
"what is a ripping blade?" Thinking it amazing that he knew of a quilting tool that I didn't know about...
"to cut the length you use a ripping blade on the saw. That cuts the length of the grain. If you are cutting the width of the wood, you use a cross cut saw. So, a ripping blade to rip the length of the wood and a cross cut to cut the width."

Since it seems that your husband is into woodworking. I actually stole my husband's t-square which is 48" long and I don't then get the waves of multiple layers. I love the idea of the stripes. Just remember to cut wide enough for your seam allowance.

I'm sure your co-worker will absolultely love the quilt. Such pretty fabric.

    Send pics!!!

I can do one better on husbands. Mine is a machinist. He made me two sets of rulers one out of alumunin and one of plexiglass. Several are L shaped and all have holes drilled in them to facilitate hanging them up. He also made me several differnt sizes of squares ranging from 2.5 inches up to 6.5 inches. Since he is used to working in 100s of inches I know they are super accurate.

Can we put in an order for some rulers? It's such a pain for those in between sizes, like 3.5 inches, that I would love to just put down an appropriate sized ruler to square up my blocks!! :)

Thanks all for your encouragement for the fabrics! I am looking forward to HOPEFULLY starting to cut today. Depends on the weather...if it doesn't slow up, my daughter will have to come home early, which means no quilting! :)

I agree your husband could probably sell a truckload of rulers on this site alone. I would love some wider rulers, they would be very useful on so many projects

Gorgeous fabrics; I think you've got a great plan. And although the bill added up quickly, you've got enough for a couple of great quilts - or at least one with some nice pieces left.

Would you share what the name of the line is?
